Founding Convention
(Nov 2024)
Santa Clara, CA - November 3, 2024 – On the eve of a pivotal national election, nearly 600 leaders and community members from 17 founding organizations and several guest organizations gathered to launch Silicon Valley Allied for the Common Good (SVACG), the first broad-based community organization in the region affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation. The event marked a new era of collective commitment to building power and fighting for concrete change in one of America’s most influential—and most unequal—regions.

March for Safety
(Nov 2022)
Jacob was struck and killed in a crosswalk near his school on the morning of September 16. A woman walking with him was also seriously injured. His death prompted an outpouring of grief and growing calls for change.

Housing Instability
Due to COVID-19, millions of households in California were at risk of homelessness. In partnership with the Diocese of San Jose and Catholic Charities, we offered workshops to help tenants and landlords access the COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act of 2020 funds and joined over 600 California IAF leaders on Zoom along with our own Catholic Bishop Oscar Cantú of San Jose and two state legislators to call for an extension of the eviction moratorium.

Expanding the CalEITC
On May 5, 2020, we joined with 7 other IAF organizations across the state to rally 1,200 people to to call on Governor Newsom to do more for essential workers during the pandemic.

2020 Fall Assembly
Over 270 people joined us online for our first ever Fall Assembly, where we heard stories about the issues affecting the lives of our Silicon Valley neighbors and how we can come together to change things for the common good.

Examples of IAF work around the state
Santa Cruz
COPA initiated the development of a 40-unit low-income senior-housing complex.
Marin
The Marin Organizing Committee worked with the San Rafael Police Department to change their policy of targeting immigrant-owned vehicles for towing and impounding.
Vallejo
Common Ground engaged with the City of Vallejo to develop policies that impede dumping and curb illegal activity in vacant lots.
Monterey
COPA advanced a county-led, health-coverage pilot that offers affordable medical services to uninsured residents.
Los Angeles
One LA-IAF led a campaign to shape and pass legislation resulting in $120B for new rail lines, improved bus service, and street/highway projects.
